Hyundai Recall Lookup at Harte Hyundai of Old Saybrook

If you own a Hyundai, you can check for open recalls on your specific vehicle using Hyundai's official recall lookup tool. If you find an open recall, our service team can handle the work - most recall repairs are completed in a single visit and are performed at no cost to you.

You don't have to be a current Harte customer to schedule recall service with us. Recall repairs are free regardless of where you bought your Hyundai or where you've serviced it in the past.

How to check your vehicle for recalls

You can check for open recalls in two ways. Use whichever is more comfortable for you.

Option 1 - Check it yourself
You'll need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). It's a 17-character code located in two places on your vehicle:
  • On the dashboard, driver's side, visible through the windshield from outside
  • On the driver's side door jamb, on a label visible when the door is open
You can also find it on your vehicle registration, your insurance card, or your title.
Click the button below to open Hyundai's official recall lookup tool. The tool will open in a new tab so you can return to Harte Hyundai when you're done.

Option 2 - Have us check for you
Prefer not to use the tool yourself? Give us your VIN and we'll do the lookup, tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls, and walk you through what happens next. There's no obligation - we'll just give you the information.

What is a recall, and why does it matter?

A recall happens when Hyundai or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identifies a safety-related defect or a part that doesn't meet federal motor vehicle safety standards. Recalls can cover anything from a faulty seatbelt or airbag to engine, brake, or electrical issues.

A few things worth knowing about recalls:
  • Recall repairs are free. Hyundai covers all parts and labor for recall work, regardless of your vehicle's age, mileage, or warranty status.
  • Recalls don't expire. If your vehicle has an open recall from years ago that was never addressed, you can still get it fixed for free today.
  • You can use any authorized Hyundai dealer. You're not required to take your vehicle back to the dealership where you bought it. Any authorized Hyundai service center - including Harte Hyundai of Old Saybrook - can perform the work.
  • Hyundai notifies you by mail. If your vehicle has a new recall, Hyundai sends a letter to the address on file. If you've moved or never received a notice, the recall lookup tool above will tell you whether you have anything open.
What happens if you have an open recall
If the lookup tool tells you (or we tell you) that your Hyundai has an open recall, the next step is simple: schedule a service appointment, bring your vehicle in, and we'll take care of the work.

Here's what to expect:
  • Most recall repairs take 1-3 hours. Some are quicker; some require parts we may need to order first. We'll tell you upfront when you schedule.
  • You pay nothing. No parts cost, no labor cost, no diagnostic fee. Hyundai covers everything.
  • We'll check for other open recalls while we're at it. If your vehicle has more than one open recall, we'll address all of them in the same visit when possible.
  • No purchase or commitment required. We're not going to try to sell you a car. The recall appointment is the recall appointment.
