How is my trade-in value determined?
Trade
value comes down to what your vehicle is worth to the next buyer. The
main inputs are mileage, mechanical condition, cosmetic condition, and
current demand for that specific model. Local demand matters more than
people expect - an all-wheel-drive vehicle carries stronger value here
on the shoreline heading into winter than the same vehicle would in a
warmer market.
Online estimators give you a
useful range, but they cannot see your vehicle. The appraisal we do in
person is what produces the actual number.
What is trade equity, and what happens if I still owe?
Equity
is the difference between what your vehicle is worth and what you still
owe on it. If the value is higher than the balance, that difference
works as a down payment on your next vehicle. If the balance is higher -
negative equity - the gap has to be dealt with, either paid down or
rolled into the new loan.
Rolling
negative equity forward is common and sometimes the right call, but it
increases the amount you finance and can leave you upside down again on
the next vehicle. Knowing the number before you shop is the whole point
of getting an appraisal early.
Do I have to buy a vehicle to get an appraisal?
No. The appraisal is free and carries no obligation. If you want to sell us the vehicle without buying anything, we will make you an offer on it.
What should I bring?
Bring the vehicle, the title or loan information, and all keys and remotes. That is genuinely it - we pull the vehicle history ourselves, so there is no paperwork for you to dig up beforehand.
